In autumn, the Photographic Collection/Sk Stiftung Kultur is showing the parallel exhibitions "Simone Nieweg – Plantations, Sheds, Arable Land" and "August Kotzsch – Nature, Landscape, Genre." The photographs by Simone Nieweg and August Kotzsch both show scenic areas and the designs and gems of nature discovered in them. An exciting encounter between contemporary and historical photography.
Simone Nieweg (*1962), master student in Bernd Becher's class at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, looked at nature and the areas made usable by humans as important starting points for her artistic work as early as the 1980s. Even then, they were concerned with urgent questions about how to deal with our natural resources. The artist captures what gives the country structure and continuity: alternative allotment gardens, burial ground, patches of meadow, fields that are becoming overgrown, vegetable patches, plowed fields in winter or flowering fruit trees as a harbinger of spring. Buildings erected with simple means, whether sheds or compost bins, can also be discovered as typical elements of their landscapes.
August Kotzsch (1836–1910) is one of the early masters of German photography and offers a historical counterpart to Simone Nieweg. He takes us on a foray through the nature of his home region of Loschwitz near Dresden. Landscape details, garden corners, still lifes, the fruits of his own harvest, but also houses and courtyards became his motifs. Gems that paint a realistic and romantic picture of their surroundings with great attention to detail.
In addition to these two thematically corresponding presentations, the Photographic Collection will also be showing works by Sora Park, August Sander Prize winner 2022, from September. Current portraits and still lifes will be shown.
On the first Thursday of the month, the exhibitions can be seen until 9 p.m., from 5 p.m. with free admission: There are special program items.

The Ludwig Forum Aachen is showing Ooooooooo-pus, the first international survey exhibition by Katalin Ladik (born 1942 in Novi Sad, lives in Budapest). Through her radical approach to poetry, sound and performance, Ladik established herself as a key figure in the artistic avant-garde in the former Yugoslavia. Based on her ongoing interest in language and physicality, the exhibition provides the first overview of her work from the late 1960s to the present day. The musical scores of her visual and phonetic poetry in the form of collages, textile works, photographs and objects, in conjunction with other sound compositions, open up a multi-layered sound landscape that is carried by the extraordinary range of Ladik's voice.
The exhibition is organized in cooperation with the Haus der Kunst Munich and the Moderna Museet, Stockholm.
A monograph accompanying the exhibition will be published by Skira Editore, Milan. An accompanying booklet can be downloaded from the museum website.
On the opening evening, the museum is open from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

In a large-scale overview exhibition, the internationally renowned artist Christiane Löhr (*1965) creates a sculptural and installation cosmos using materials from nature. She uses flying seeds, plant stems, burs, tree blossoms and animal hair to construct her organic-abstract works that are reminiscent of architecture, landscapes or vessels. In a surprising way, she transforms the ephemeral materials into precisely constructed, delicate and expansive sculptures.
The exhibition brings together almost 80 works from four decades. In addition to sculptures and drawings, three large-format installations created specifically for the exhibition as well as a number of early, rarely shown works by the artist can be seen.
Christiane Löhr's vegetative-architectural spatial sculptures in Richard Meier's light-flooded museum building open up current perspectives on the fragile image of being and invoke organic principles of growth and construction.

April 22, 2024 marks the 300th anniversary of the birth of the philosopher Immanuel Kant (1724–1804). Kant's groundbreaking contributions to the Enlightenment, his reflections on ethics, emancipation, epistemology and international law are still considered reference points for groundbreaking debates today.
The exhibition brings the work of Immanuel Kant closer to a philosophically uneducated, and explicitly young, audience using innovative, easily accessible communication formats. The four famous Kantian questions “What can I know?” What can I hope for? What should I do? What is man?” structure the exhibition in terms of content. At the same time, the historical person Immanuel Kant, his environment and his networks come into focus.
A VR reconstruction of the baroque Königsberg, which was completely destroyed in 1944/45, forms a central communication element of the exhibition content, as Kant's biography was closely linked to the East Prussian city.

The visible entrance to KIT – a pavilion building on the promenade that is glazed towards the Rhine – houses the KIT Café and is one of the most beautiful gastronomic addresses on the Rhine. When the sun is shining, the terrace with a view of the knee of the Rhine is a place to relax and enjoy.
Through the café, visitors reach the underground exhibition area via a large staircase or by elevator. This swings elliptically over a length of 140 meters parallel to the Rhine. The ceiling height and width of the room vary. The works of young artists are exhibited between the concrete walls, which the artistic director of the KIT, Gertrud Peters, invites to exhibit here.
Among other things, acoustic tours are carried out for visually impaired and blind visitors.
