With about 200 selected pieces, the exhibition at the MAKK will provide an impressive panorama of 50 years of contemporary jewellery design from Denmark. The presentation will play with thematic juxtapositions such as ‘Body and Jewellery’ or ‘Identity and Diversity’, thus creating an intriguing and extraordinary perspective of both the complexity and the development of Danish jewellery design. The exhibition will also feature about 30 examples from the MAKK’s significant jewellery collection, which will be integrated to form a dialogic discourse. The exhibition will be part of the 2020 German-Danish Cultural Year of Friendship, hosted in collaboration with The Danish Arts Foundation in Copenhagen. As the 16th Kunstgenerator scholarship holder in the joint funding of NEW and the city of Viersen, Nico Pachali (*1988) is exhibiting his work in the Galerie im Park at the end of his year in Viersen. Characteristic of his art are the mostly bright red characters that flood the paper, often in the form of letters, which are composed into single words, notes, and fragments of thoughts. Pachali uses writing and language as graphic material. Individual works are continually put together in new ways to form “language sculptures”, object-like elements, installations and series. The dynamic process, development and reorganization are just as important as the finished picture, often in intensive engagement with the respective space.
Nico Pachali studied at the HBK Braunschweig with Thomas Rentmeister and Bogomir Ecker, most recently as a master student with Thomas Rentmeister and Isa Melsheimer.
An extensive catalog will be published to accompany the exhibition and the completion of the scholarship, which also includes the first outdoor work created on the pavement in front of the gallery.
An artist talk on Wednesday, February 7th, 2024, at 7 p.m. and the finissage with catalog presentation on Sunday, March 10th, 2024, 3 p.m. offer opportunities to exchange ideas with the artist.
